Blogging Boredom

I know how many blogs that I look at... all that are on my blog and some that I find on other blogs and I think "I should really add them" but I never get around to it. It got me wondering. How many people actually look at my blog? Does "following" someone's blog automatically mean they "follow" yours in return, and if not, how is that supposed to make you feel? If "followers"actually gave close estimates as to how many people read your blog then I'm blogging for 4 people.

My blog could be best described as a public journal. If you read my blog you know pretty much everything about me. Blogging is also like having one-sided conversation with a lot of people. You tell them about you, they read it and then they get to come up with their own conclusions or ideas about you and you don't even get to defend yourself. It's funny that we put ourselves in these situations and call it fun.

Followers. We care about "followers," whether you admit it or not, the more followers you have the more people you're talking to and therefore your blog has more meaning. The whole idea of blogging is funny to me and yet at the same time SO addicting that I'm doing it all the time. (Like now) It's actually a great outlet for me and also a great way to let my family know how we are doing. Hopefully they check it once in awhile.

Family is why I started this blog. Ryan's family lives in and around Lehi and Price, my family ranges from 3 blocks away to SLC to Arizona. I'm actually trying to talk more of my family into blogging, my mom thought about starting one for her Business Lab at school, but that's all I've heard of.

Now that I've rambled for the last couple minutes about blogging I want your opinion.
  • Is there a point to blogging?
  • Would you blog even if no one read it but you?
  • Why did you start blogging?
If it's not too much trouble after you leave a comment perhaps you could make yourself a "follower" of my blog?

  1. Cute header!

I think everyone blogs for different reasons. So yes there is a point, but it's different for every blogger.
I blog mainly for my family and friends who live across the country, who I can't talk to every day. But I also blog just to write - because I need a creative outlet (especially now that I'm not in school and writing all the time). It's therapeutic for me.
I think I would keep blogging if no one read my blog, although it's really fun to see people reading and making comments.

Also, did you know that you can embed a site tracker into your blog, and see just how many people visit it every day? It's a fun tool that can be very addicting.

  2. Hey! I totally agree with you and thought about posting a "who really reads my blog?" but never got around to it. I LOVE blogging and am addicted. I've been called a "blog snob" but don't care. A year ago I suffered from depression, mainly from not having anyone to talk to or "vent" to. Now that I am blogging, I feel like I have that outlet and don't keep things bottled inside. I would still blog, even if no one ever read it. I do have a private blog that no one has access to but myself for those blogs that I really do need to let out some frustration. Like you, it is more of an online public journal. I do have a tracker at the bottom of my blog that tracks who visits mine, but it only works if they are logged onto theirs (if they just type in my blog addy, it doesn't know who is viewing it). My grandparents are trying to get everyone in the family to do it because they like to know how/what everyone is doing, but there are so many of us that it is hard for them to talk to everyone. They love pictures and videos, so I don't mind posting a lot for them. So anyway, keep blogging. I love reading yours. I try to comment, but am usually reading while doing a few other things and forget. I also try not to copy others but with our kids the same age and going through the same phases, that can be hard. I don't blog to compete or outdo others. I think its just fun (and addicted) to share.

  3. I love blogging! It makes me remember how I felt a few days ago (because I no longer can remember) and I do get to keep up with all my friends from college and high school! Its nice to see where everyone's lives have taken them and plus I am at home alot so I need my imaginary friend I am talking too...lol my blog. I love reading how tally is doing on your blog and what you and Ryan are up too! Oh! By the way! Starting in July I am putting together like a girls night out thing once a month for all of us friends up state! Just get together once a month and play bunco or go to dinner or do something! I hope this will include you dear! I hope all is well!

  4. I agree with the other comments. I started out doing one just for my immediate family so we could all keep in touch better (mainly because I always felt like I was the last one to hear about anything!). But then I started one for just me and Travis so Travis' family could get more involved. I too, have my own private blog that no one reads but me and I like to vent there, but I like to keep friends and family updated on our lives if they care. And I love being able to check up on friends and family since I'm so horrible at calling people! I think it's fun! Keep it up Syd! I love your digital layouts, pics, and thoughts!

  5. Hahah so I think this may be the most comments I've ever gotten. I LOVE blogging and it's nice to know that people are reading even if they aren't "followers." I hope the title doesn't confuse people. I was bored so I was blogging I'm so not bored of blogging. :)

  6. I think blogging is like writing letters to everyone you know, except you save on postage and its not as personal. I don't really care about followers, because I would probably blog even if no one read it. Actually, I did that once. When people update their blogs, I check them, but I don't "follow" blogs in the sense that I get an email or whatever that says so and so wrote on their blog. These are my thoughts on blogging. So yeah, I probably won't "follow" your blog, but I do check it when you update it and I do read it, even though I rarely leave comments. Love ya babe. Come to SLC sometime, eh?

  7. I would love to go to SLC sometime and see you! When are your days off? Ryan's schedule is weird so we can't plan for just any weekend. Let me know when I good time is for you, maybe the summer? You don't have to "follow" me publicly I know you're watching you stalker!

  8. interesting to think about...I actually started blogging mainly because I believe it is the closest thing to a life history if you will that I will get to. I also love taking pictures and love that I can put my pictures with my thoughts about what is going on. However, I also blog because I think it's nice to keep be slightly posted on your life and I enjoyed others' blogs and thought I should have one too!

  9. I actually started blogging mainly because I believe this is the closest thing to a life history I will have. I love taking pictures and I like how I can put my pictures with what I have to say about what happened in them and have it all together. I also started reading others' blogs and I wanted to have one for people to read. Plus I think its a great way to keep people updated on our life without having to personally talk to them all the time.

  10. Ps. I also think if someone is following your blog they should leave comments because you might have no idea they are out there and they might be following your blog!
