My daughter is so talented!

Tally is a big fan of Fancy Nancy. Tonight we read her "The Show Must Go On" as a bed time story. In the book Fancy Nancy is in a Talent Show with a boy name Lionel and he teaches her how to balance a spoon on her nose. So of course Ryan went and got a spoon and taught Tally "the art." It's Ryan's new favorite picture of his crazy girl.

What's in a name?

Natalya Nycole

Ryan went on an LDS mission to Russia for 2 years before we met. After we got married and were thinking of children Ryan mentioned that he wanted one of his kids to have a Russian name. I had Ryan give me examples of names from Russia. Some boy names are Igor, Victor, Maxsim, Sergei (pronounced "Sir gay"), Vasilli etc. When I found out we were having a girl I decided she would be the one we gave a Russian name to. So after narrowing it down to Katya, Ayna and Natalya we of course went with Natalya.

Nycole is her middle name because with a name like Natalya I figured the middle name couldn't be anything simple lik Ann or Sue. The spelling is keeping with the "Y" theme.

Jakob Ryan

In Ryan's ancestory there is a story of a man named Jakob and his wife Suzanna. They had been reading the  Bible and what their minister was teaching them and what the Bible was saying weren't matching up. They decided to try and find the true church but failed. They decided that whoever died first would come back and tell the other what church was true. Jakob died first. Suzanna waited by his coffin for 3 days. She realized he wasn't coming and got up to leave when Jakob showed up. He told her the true church was on the earth and that her posterity would accept it. Two generations later there was a girl in their family that was sick and wasn't getting better. The family heard of some healers in another town and went to find the Mormon Elders.

Ryan has always felt a strong connection to Jakob and this was the one name he had chosen before we had met.

Ryan is Jake's dad's name. ;)

Some interesting things about me and names:

  • I'm not a big fan of  the name Jakob but I love the name Jake
  • I already have enough names picked out that I could probably have 10 kids. (Not that I want 10 kids)
  • Sometimes I wish I could have all my kids now so that I could name them. That way no one could "steal" the ones I've chosen.
  • I love the name Johnathon but I refuse to give that name to one of my son's because I don't want him called John. (Nothing against the name John I would just want him called Johnathon.)
  • I love less popular names and weird spellings.
  • My mom and I both have a slight obsession with putting "Y" in names.
  • Naming my son Jakob had nothing to do with Twilight.
  • If I name one of my daughter's Bella is also has nothing to do with Twilight. I liked the name Isabella before Twilight.
  • No, I'm not a big fan of the name Edward.
About names and Ryan:

  • Ryan has a hard time with names that start with B, C or T. There's no real prejudice against those letters we just can't seem to agree on names that begin with those letters.
  • He has a hard time with initials spelling out words. DO  NOT bring up Jake's initials, middle name included or not.
  • Ryan refuses to name his kids names of people he knows/knew that he doesn't/didn't like. Because of that some names that I really like are forever off limits.
It's only fair to have you tell me why your kids have the names they do. Any interesting stories? Do you have any weird quirks when it comes to names or naming your kids?

U.B.I.C

This year for U.B.I.C Tally really enoyed "Art in the Park" she made lots of great crafts that she loves. She also got to play at the park, of course. There was a parade on Saturday morning. We also went to the night program Friday and Saturday night. We saw Nathan Osmond and Patty Loveless in concert. There was also a great fire work show, but I might be
slightly biased. :)

Pizza Hut for lunch after "Art in the Park"
Showing of her glow sticks

The Parade
Tally's butterfly wings. She was so excited to put them on. But she was very disappointed when she realized she really couldn't fly!

This is my proof that Ryan was there. :)
