Stupid Cupid, stop picking on me!

This year for Valentine's we made Cupid cupcakes for family and friends for Valentines. (www.familyfun.com) Is this starting to look like a craft blog? We used the Valentine cake mix again and made cupcakes. Then using rice krispies, edible markers, dove heart chocolates, pretzels and marshmallows we made them look like Cupid.

When we were done Tally told me "Mom these look like bunnies!" Here's what I think went wrong, I think you need to fill the cupcakes with more batter than normal. Then the wings are lower instead of looking like ears. :)

Sadly I forgot to take a picture until after we had delivered so here are the last 5.

Wild about you!

I decided to make Ryan's Valentine present this year. I got the idea from www.thedatingdivas.com and changed it a little. It's pretty easy, you need a lunch box ($5, I found mine at Roberts Craft), some animal print paper ( I got 3 pieces at Hobby Lobby for $.44 total)  and some Mod Podge glue.

First I took the paper and the Mod Podge and covered the inside of the box, really it's just for fun not necessary.
Then I took the paper and Mod Podge and outlined the box.
I added extra things on top just for fun. (Ribbon was fray checked after the picture was taken, you just take a lighter to the edges)

Then the finishing touch. I took the extra paper I had and used my cricut to cut out the letters and then used Mod Podge and tacky glue to attach it to the box.
After the box dried I added his favorite candy (Extra dark Lindor Truffles, Almond Kisses, and Jerky. Ryan seemed to really like it. All of the candy is already gone!

I choo-choose you!

One of my callings in church is an Activity Day leader. I decided I want to give them each a Valentine so I went searching. I found this idea on www.familyfun.com
They seemed to be a big hit!

I used a Valentine cake mix and made cupcakes.
Then with red hots, tootsie rolls, and reeses peanut butter cups I made a train on top.
I added the smoke with a paper and a toothpick.
These are easy to make, but they are time consuming.

Sushi?

The other day we had a game night and I decided to try and make a treat that I hadn't made before.
Candy Sushi of course!

For those of you that want to know how it's made,
You will need:
Rice krispies
marshmallows
Gummy worms
and fruit roll ups (I used mini roll ups)

Use the rice krispies and marshmallows to make rice krispie treats (there's a recipe on the bag of Puffs marshmallows if you need it) Get a cookie sheet and cover it with wax paper. Dump the RK treats onto the pan and wax paper. Let the RK treats dry for a little while so they are still movable but not sticky. Take 2 gummy worms and put them at one edge of the RK and continue across that edge of the pan. Roll the treats around the worms so that they are surrounded, then take a knife and cut off the roll. Cut the roll into 1 inch piece and cover the outside with a fruit roll up. Repeat with the rest of the RK on the pan.

I ended up taking the leftovers to my parent's house for their Super Bowl party. My dad wouldn't even touch them because he said "they looked too much like the real thing."

The picture isn't real great because I took it with my phone.

Winter Trip to Lehi

Ryan's dad has been having a hard time lately so in January we traveled to Lehi for a short visit...
and a short nap ;)

Tally discovered painting with water colors there. She loved it, We took home nearly a whole coloring book of painted pictures!
Jake had a good time too. I just notice that every outfit we put him in that weekend was green! Even his pajamas! It's so weird, I promise he has other colors besides green to wear!

And of course we couldn't leave without a picture of Brad, Ryan and the kids.

New Year's Celebration

New Year's 2011 was spent at my parent's house playing games and eating great food. We played Balderdash and Know It or Blow It (both games Ryan and I got for Christmas). We had a lot of fun! Tally spent most of the time with her cousins playing with the "Spiders" (Cootie).
