State Basketball Weekend!

My dad's basketball team won their playoff game a couple Saturdays and headed to State last Thursday. We've been following their games all season long and at first it looked like we weren't going to make it State which just didn't seem fair. You can't miss the best part right? Things started looking better for us when some summer family trips got moved around and Ryan didn't have to take as many days off so he could take them off for State instead! It looked like we would drive out and stay Friday and Saturday. We still would miss the Thursday game but I was happy with the outcome of being able to go at all.

Wednesday made us fear our plans. Right before I was headed to work I heard Tally coughing. As hard as she was coughing I knew she wasn't taking a nap, so I went and got her. I held her until the babysitter got there. She looked tired and uncomfortable but I didn't think much of it. I called Ryan on the way to work anyway to let him know I was wondering if Tally was getting sick. By the time it was time for bed that night Tally had thrown up twice and was absolutely miserable. None of us slept that night.

The next day Ryan went to work and I tried to console Tally. (Which was hard to do on 3 hours of sleep) Eventually I got her to take a nap and get a bath. After the bath the real trouble began. Tally wanted a drink so I gave her some milk. The poor thing had been living on salt crackers, bread and water I felt bad for her. She tipped her head back to get a drink out of her sippy and immediately started crying. Finally she looked at me and said "Mom, my ear is hurts. I knew that meant a trip to the doctor was in our future. Both of us had gotten showers and now had to get ready for the day. I took Tally to an urgent care clinic where they diagnosed her, of course, with an ear infection. Then it was off to the pharmacy for amoxicillan, we also needed tylenol and ibeprofen.

Ryan didn't want to get his karate students sick because we knew there was something more than an ear infection wrong with Tally that he cancelled for that night. Called me up and told me to get a hotel and that we would do our best to make it to the Thursday State game. I still think he cancelled for me, he knew I was desperate to get there. Basketball, well sports in general, have always been a big part of my family's life and I was dying to get there and be a part of it.

So then began the packing for all 3 of us while tending a sick child. I also had to clean out the car, gas it up and get money from the ATM for the trip. It felt like I never stopped moving until Ryan came home at 5:00 he showered and we were on the road for the game by 5:30. We pulled into UVU and arrived at the game before half time! It was amazing. I can't believe how things worked out. Tally was a trooper through the drive and throughout the weekend.

Now to the fun stuff.

My dad's team won their game against Emery Thursday night, guaranteeing them nothing lower than 4th place. We went back to the hotel, Tally and Ryan went swimming and we attempted bed. It didn't work out well. I think Tally was still hurting pretty bad when she laid down.

Friday they won their game against Juab guaranteeing them nothing short of 2nd which sadly is where they placed. They played Richfield and lost by 5.

It was a fabulous weekend and the team did such a great job! They were so fun to watch. We've enjoyed watching them all season long and they did not disappoint us at State! There are some articles in our local paper about the Union Girls Basketball team if you go to www.ubstandard.com I know their are also articles in the Salt Lake Tribune as well as the Deseret News.

Tally thought that the pillow in our hotel room was a horse.

Our little fish! She never seemed sick in the water.
